Description: Ruby red color, with an intense and floral scent of violet and rose, with fruity notes of raspberry, blackberry, cherry and strawberry, with spicy hints of pink pepper and clove. The taste is dry, slightly tannic and of good intensity. Very fine wine. The fundamental characteristic is precisely the low and delicate tannic component that makes it suitable for seafood cuisine. A classic summer red that is easy and pleasant to drink.

pairings
Piedirosso or as in the local dialect “Per e Palumm” (pigeon leg) pairs well with white meats such as chicken, rabbit and guinea fowl, and structured seafood dishes such as cod alla pizzaiola and rich fish soups. We can easily pair it with cold cuts and not too mature cheeses.

HISTORICAL NOTES
Piedirosso is a black grape variety, exclusively from Campania, not being cultivated outside the region. Its name derives from a morphological peculiarity of the vine, the red color of the pedicels of the grapes that recalls the color of the doves’ legs.
The vine has very ancient origins, according to the scholar Carlucci it would seem that Piedirosso coincides with the black Palombina cited by Herrera – Sederini (16th century), who in turn believe it to be identical to the Colombina of Pliny’s “Naturalis Historia” (1st century).
